Foundation Diploma in Multidisciplinary Creative Practice
Fashion Design & Creative Futures
Explore fashion. Build your portfolio. Prepare for undergraduate-level study.
Fashion is more than clothing. It is identity, culture, communication, sustainability, innovation and future thinking.
The Foundation Diploma in Multidisciplinary Creative Practice: Fashion Design & Creative Futures is an 8-month Creative foundation programme for students who want to explore fashion design, develop Creative confidence, build a portfolio, and prepare for progression into undergraduate-level fashion or Creative study at AMDT.
This pathway is especially suitable for students who are interested in fashion, styling, textiles, illustration, visual storytelling, Creative direction, and the future of fashion, but may not yet meet the direct entry requirements for Year 1 of an undergraduate-level programme.
Through studio-based learning, Creative projects, portfolio development, fashion-focused exploration and guided feedback, students begin to discover their voice as emerging fashion Creatives.
Students also benefit from the broader Foundation Diploma in Multidisciplinary Creative Practice, where they gain exposure to Creative thinking, visual communication, media, digital tools and portfolio-building before developing a stronger fashion direction.
A key advantage of the Foundation Diploma route is that students have the opportunity to earn two qualifications through a single programme. Upon successful completion and meeting the relevant requirements, students may receive both the AMDT Foundation Diploma in Multidisciplinary Creative Practice: Fashion Design & Creative Futures and the Pearson BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art, Design and Media Practice.
A fashion foundation for
your Creative future
your Creative future
The Fashion Design & Creative Futures specialization gives students the opportunity to explore fashion as a Creative, cultural and future-focused discipline.
Students begin with broad Creative exploration and gradually move towards a clearer fashion direction. They develop Creative confidence, visual thinking, fashion awareness, research ability, portfolio work, and a stronger understanding of how fashion connects with identity, society, media, sustainability, culture and innovation.
This course is not only about designing clothes. It helps students understand how fashion ideas are researched, developed, communicated and presented. Students are encouraged to explore their own Creative interests while building the foundation needed for further study.
The programme supports students to develop a fashion-focused portfolio that may help them progress into AMDT undergraduate-level study or apply for further Creative study elsewhere, subject to the requirements of the receiving institution.

Foundation Diploma vs Year 0
Same curriculum. Same classes. Different award outcome.
AMDT offers two routes through the same foundation learning experience: the Foundation Diploma and the Year 0 Programme.
Students in both routes follow the same curriculum, attend the same classes, complete the same learning activities, and develop the same portfolio and project work. The difference is the fee structure and the qualification outcome.

Two qualifications. One learning journey.
One of the key benefits of the Foundation Diploma route is that students can work towards both qualifications through the same programme of study. This means students gain the recognition of an AMDT Foundation Diploma while also benefiting from the added credibility and international recognition associated with a Pearson BTEC qualification.
Year 0 students follow the same curriculum and classes but do not receive a qualification or certification upon completion.
