The Year Zero (Foundation Year) is a specially designed 8-month programme for aspiring creatives who are ready to begin their journey into the world of design, media, and visual arts, but may not yet meet the traditional entry qualifications for an undergraduate qualification. This course is an alternative and inclusive pathway, open to students with O’level qualifications or equivalent, offering a powerful foundation to build confidence, skills, and direction before entering a full undergraduate degree.
Structured over two intensive study blocks, this course introduces you to the core concepts of creative thinking and making. You’ll explore a range of creative disciplines including drawing, design principles, animation and storytelling, fashion studies, graphic design, interior and architectural design, and more. The curriculum is crafted to help you experiment, reflect, and discover your strengths across various Creative fields.
Through a balance of hands-on studio work, conceptual exploration, and critical thinking, Year Zero provides the space for you to grow as a visual communicator and creative problem solver. The course encourages curiosity, collaboration, and innovation key qualities that form the heart of any successful Creative career.
A vital part of the course includes career guidance and portfolio development, equipping you with the tools and confidence to move forward in your academic and professional path. By the end of the programme, you’ll present your creative work in a final exhibition and leave with a strong portfolio that showcases your potential.

Graduates of the foundation year can progress directly into one of our undergraduate degrees at AMDT School of Creativity—an institution built for dreamers and doers.
