Made of MYLO –Technology, Sustainability, and Fashion.

2020 changed the face of many industries, and the highlight of the fashion industry was bringing sustainability to the forefront of the conversation. In such a context, technological innovations play a major part to reduce the negative impact of the industry on the planet.

On March 2021, British fashion designer Stella McCartney unveiled the first-ever garments made with MYLO – an alternative, vegan, sustainable, animal-free, completely bio-degradable leather, made from mycelium, the infinitely renewable underground root system of fungi, developed by California-based Bolt Threads.

McCartney has used Bolt Threads’ trademarked Mylo fabric for two garments, a black bustier top, and utilitarian trousers. Both are handcrafted from panels of the mycelium-based material laid on recycled nylon scuba at the brand’s atelier in London, and they demonstrate the progression in both aesthetics and performance of biomaterials. Adidas, Lululemon, and few more brands at Kering will also unveil products made with MYLO in 2021.
